Play Responsibly
Last updated: 7 October 2026. We want StockMates to stay fun and to stay within what you're comfortable spending.
Real Money, Real Prizes
StockMates is only available to players aged 18 or over with a UK-registered address — see our Terms of Use, Section 7.
StockMates uses virtual money only, so you never stake or risk your own money on a game. No trade your AI Mate or you make ever places real money at risk — see our Terms of Use, Section 1. Every trade uses virtual capital that has no cash value and can never be withdrawn, so you cannot lose real money through gameplay itself.
A paid subscription is different: it's a real, fixed monthly fee, and once you join a cash-prize game during a period you've paid for, that period is not refunded, whether or not you win a prize — see our Terms of Use, Section 14. Most players in any given cash-prize game do not win a prize. You never have to pay to enter a cash-prize game — a genuine free entry route by post is always available, with the same access, settings and chance to rank as a paid subscriber — see our Terms of Use, Section 13.
Entertainment, Not Investment
A paid StockMates subscription is a platform access fee that includes access to cash-prize games — see our Terms of Use, Section 15. It is not a financial product, an investment, or a way to grow your money. Winning a cash prize is a genuine possibility, not something your subscription is designed to guarantee or that should be relied upon as income.
We'd encourage you to think of your subscription the same way you would a streaming service or a game subscription: a small, predictable monthly leisure cost you're comfortable with regardless of whether you place well on the leaderboard that month.
Past performance in one game does not indicate future results — a strong leaderboard position in a previous game is not a guarantee of similar results in any future game.
Setting Your Own Limits
A few simple habits go a long way:
- Only subscribe to a tier whose monthly cost you'd be entirely comfortable paying even in a month where you don't place well or win anything.
- Consider setting yourself a personal monthly spending limit for StockMates, the same way you might for any other subscription or hobby, and stick to it regardless of how a game is going.
- If checking your leaderboard position or configuring your Mate stops feeling like a fun part of your day and starts feeling like something you have to do, take that as a sign to step back.
Support If You Need It
If you ever feel that your spending on StockMates, or on anything else, is becoming a problem, these UK support organisations are free, confidential, and available to anyone:
- MoneyHelper (free, government-backed money advice) — moneyhelper.org.uk
- StepChange (free, confidential debt advice) — stepchange.org
You can also email us directly at support@stockmates.co if you'd like to talk to us about your account.
Step Away Any Time
You can stop using StockMates at any time. If you want to close your account entirely, you can do this yourself from the Danger Zone section of your Profile page — this immediately signs you out of every device, deletes or anonymises your personal data in line with our Terms of Use, Section 25, and cancels any paid subscription for the following month. It does not refund the period you're currently in — see our Terms of Use, Section 14. No need to contact us first.
